Bad to Worse Empty Bad to Worse

Post  Xedanis April 15th 2014, 12:02 pm

So I was planning on posting another little update regarding a multitude of topics; where I am right now with all of my creative projects, news about where the Radio Station is (which I've dropped the FKA brand for, by the way... more on that later) and a bunch of other things that seem to be all insignificant and irrelevant right now.

Stuff has happened that's much more important. And you all deserve to know... all three of you (optimistically counting).

Xedanis

A lot of people have asked me where Xedanis is. What is he doing. Where has he gone. Even a look at his website reveals that all is not well. The reason for this is simple: My account at webs has been frozen, for "violating terms of use." Webs gives absolutely no explanation of how or when these "Terms" were violated, and after emailing them to begin an "investigation" (something that has been a very large source of anger for me, which I won't lay out here because it's just repetitive and frustrating) I have yet to recieve any response at all, let alone an explanation.

Xedanis's character page is in limbo. I have taken the precaution of backing up all the background and info I wrote for him painstakingly over the course of the last six years. Because the last thing I want is some dumb tit with a delete button to go ape-shit crazy and wipe out all my hard work because of their ignorant high-horse attitude.

As for Xedanis himself...

Officially, Xedanis is currently en-route to Atlantis, on a mission to save the remains of the sunken city from total obliteration. He's accompanied by Moon Girl and Evie, and Corvun, the last Atlantean Priest. This story is slowly taking shape right here on this forum in its own little thread.

Unofficially... I have writer's block. Xedanis is not where my creative juices are comfortable right now. Most of my energies are flowing naturally toward Varien, in particular the Bloodstorm episodic that i'm posting piece by piece to my Facebook page. That too, is encountering creative difficulty because of the awkward position i've landed myself and my daughter in in that story, with absolutely no hope of rescue from a very large, hungry demon.

Back to Xed.

He is not dead. I am not leaving the city. Granted, I haven't been taking my turns on the Grid; that is because the Grid is boring. There I said it. I play Xedanis because of the RP, the storytelling, and the interaction. Grid gameplay is a point and click affair that I will get to when I get to it (barring something that requires Grid intervention, such as an attack on the family).

And finally, for the umpteenth time (and I say this to quash anybody latching onto my "boring" note above): I WILL NOT GO TO PATH. I've tried it twice, it's boring, depressingly time-consuming AND complex, and I'm not doing it. So shaddap.

FKA Radio

Before you get too excited let me explain how this fits into my priorities at the moment:

1: Pay off bills. All of them.
2: Get house.
3: College Fund for Ariana.
4: New clothes and shoes for Lee.
5: Actually complete and publish one of my many Novel projects.
6: New clothes for me.
7: New TV (dependent on #2)
8: Storage Unit.
9: Website?
10: Radio station?

As you can see the station and the website are on the list, but at the bottom. Now, as I said before; FKA Radio no longer exists. I'm dropping that name because honestly it's crap; and there's no point labelling something that is currently in limbo. So i'm just going to call it "Radio" from now on, until the point if / when it becomes a reality.

Which is another matter entirely.

I've been toying with ideas. In light of the suspension to Xed's website outlined above I've been exploring options for building and paying for my own website, independent of f***-headed services like Webs. A Shoutcast server may well factor into this if it becomes an option. Which brings us to the most important question of all in this regard; Money.

Shoutcast costs money. Yes, you may whinge that it's "not much". Yeah, it isn't much, if you have disposable income. Look at my list. I am trying to pay off an auto loan, a store card (which bought my laptop that I'm writing this to you on, Lee's laptop, and the TV that we had to replace ours with when it busted... which by the way is 28" because i'm cheap and sensible) and a few other things that are preventing us from getting a house. In addition to this I'm trying to pour as much as possible into my child's future. I also have relatives that occasionally whine for cash, plus their funeral expenses to cover when I refuse. Coupled with feeding my family and paying the bills on an apartment that was built by a half-blind amateur with no concept of heat or fuel efficiencies, how much disposable income do you suppose I have?

I think I've made that point well.

One of the most promising ideas in the money / shoutcast departments was a DJ-Subscription model. Let me break this down for you:

  • Djs who want a show are contractually bound to pay $5 / month towards the server cost of the station. This means the more DJs sign up, the bigger the station can be.
  • If the DJs are able to gain a sponsor that will cover their subscription cost - which is done on their own without my aid - that's good.
  • Sub fees are due on the first of each month. No sub, no spot - you're fired.

And how would it work? Obviously if people are paying for it, consequences and rules can be expected? Well these are the ideas I had;

[list]
[*]DJs choose their own spot, and how often they do their show. Those choices are guaranteed; anyone who tries to "Steal" or overlap another DJ's spot is given a warning, then fired if a repeat occurrence happens.
[*]DJs may not chose more than one spot at one time, nor may they chose more than one prime time slot (e.g. a DJ may not have both Friday and Saturday at 8pm, although they may chose either one or the other.)
[*]Broadcast slots are a maximum of 3 hours if started before 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern, and 4 hours if started after 9pm Pacific / Midnight Eastern. Prime Time slots (5pm-9pm Pacific / 8pm - Midnight Eastern) are maximum 2 hours.
[*]DJs decide their own content. If you want to play nothing but pixies playing polka, or Demons dancing for death for 2 hours, that's your call. The only restrictions I have are against such incendiary topics as Racial / Religious hatred / agenda, Pornographic content, terrorism and the like. R-rated is Okay; X rated (or NC-17) is not.

... Of course all of this may be irrelevant if the thing turns out not to happen at all. But the basic premise is now out there for you to see. Pros and Cons? Throw em out, let's hear them. For now though I'm done. I have a dentist appointment in 2 hours and i'm still in my PJs. Time to get washed and dressed (Radio station nonsense really deserves its own thread anyway.)

Rant over.
Whether anyone even gives a shit enough to respond to anything I say is another matter, I guess.

Bad to Worse Empty Re: Bad to Worse

Post  Xedanis April 16th 2014, 10:15 pm

An Update!

So I finally managed to get Xedanis's website unblocked. I recieved a message from Webs stating that an "automatic sweep" had flagged my account for "possible fraudulent / illegal activity" which was, of course, ridiculous! I sent quite a scathing response. Needless to say the hunt for my own website has moved up the list of priorities a space or two.

The rest is still as above.
